When things are working for us, everything seems to be going our way and everyone comes to rescue us from difficulties. When things are going against us, even the good things turn as odd ones and nothing will come our way. This is the tale of two nations who has very good players on both their sides but the players from one side turn all the things towards themselves, where none of the things are working for the other team. By this time, you should have understood the nations about which I am talking. Yes, it’s South Africa and Pakistan that I am talking about.

South Africa, the number one side in both the tests and one day internationals were playing Pakistan, who defeated India on their home ground in their last limited over series. Both look good on paper and have few brilliant limited over players on their side, but everything is working for South Africa and none is working for Pakistan.

Though South Africa thrashed Pakistan in the test series, the story is different in the limited overs. South Africa will not be having their best three bowlers Dale Steyn, Morkel and Vernon Philander in the team. They have their so called second string of bowling unit but that seem to be enough for the Pakistan side.

With just Robin Peterson in the team, who is part of bowling unit in the test series, they have replicated the scenes that their test stars have done. Not a regular in test team and yet to prove himself in the international arena, Kleilnveldt, Tsotsobe, debutant Abbott, all rounder Ryan McLaren and Peterson seems to be too good for the Pakistan unit and they have wrapped up the opposition for just 190 runs.

Smith and Amla are at their usual best even in the limited over format and with AB de Villiers coming at number 3, their batting lineup is super strong. Collin Ingram, who proved his worth in limited overs earlier itself have continued his good run with a much needed century and helped his team to post a score over 300.

And Faf du Plessis, who is looking as if he has matured has lot since making his test debut, have been in good run too. New comer in the team Behardien is capable of hitting some big shots and that’s why he is in the team. His 34 runs in just 14 balls with a strike rate over 240 in the first one day international helped his team to cross 300.

Not sure whose thought is that to send AB de Villers at number 3, that’s a really good thing for the batsman and the team. Shouldn’t forget that Ab de Villers has started his career as opener and I still remember the innings he has played against Australia in the world cup 2007. He is a player who can free his arms and hit any ball for the fence. It’s not too long he has hit the best bowler in the world Dale Steyn for 21 runs in an over in one of the IPL matches between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers.

With this move, Collin Ingram has to move down the order to number 4, but these are subjected to change once Kallis returns to the line up ;-).  For now, the batting line up seems to be very good and the bowling unit looks to be more than enough for the opposition. The South African captain and the team will be hoping to extend the lead and continue the winning run.

On the other hand, the likes of Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Junaid Khan and Saeed Ajmal who looked very good against India in their previous series are now looking like they are at the start of their first class careers. Especially the opening pair needs to play sensibly when they are chasing a big score, but they failed in doing so.

Pakistan batsmen have lot of things to learn from the defeat of first match and they should learn to compose the innings. They should remember that they are very few individuals who got the chance to play for the nation and should hold the responsibility on their shoulders. They shouldn’t play irresponsible shots as they did in the first one day match if at all they want to see themselves on the winning side.

Not only the youngsters in the team, but the most experienced players in the team Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq are also wasting their chances by playing loose shots. They failed to convert the starts they got into big scores. Once they put a big partnership, the likes of Kamran Akmal and Shahid Afridi can do the necessary hitting to the team over the winning line.

Junaid Khan, who looked threatening in the series against India, looked like a normal bowler against South Africa. He should learn things faster and should swing the ball both ways as he did against their arch rivals. He should stick to his basics and bowl the balls for which he is taken into the team.

They have got some time after the first one day match and they should be trying various options before the next match and hoping to do well in the match. They should know that its time to tighten up their shoes and run in hard and give their 100%

It’s less than 24 hours for the match to start and should see if Pakistan can come back and level the series or South Africa will extend their lead. Hoping for a tight match and see you tomorrow, Bye!!
