That’s all that we have for you from the commentary desk. If you want more cricket action, hop on to the other tab to catch the second Test between England and South Africa. Till then, goodbye and good night.

MS Dhoni: I think if you are talking about this match, the wicket was really good to bat on. Gautam batted well. The lower order could go and express themselves. We knew that in the second half, it would get easier to bat. Most of the Sri Lankan grounds are quite big. It’s advisable not to look for the big shots. You can find the boundaries. Me and Irfan played safe, tried to get to 300. We still need to improve in all the departments. The fact that one of the batsmen carried on to make a big score in most of the games made it easy. If you are playing with part-time bowlers on this pitch, you need those extra runs. I don’t think that my injury is a major concern. In international cricket, such small injuries keep happening.

Angelo Mathews: It was encouraging to see youngsters like Thirimanne and Mendis taking on the challenge. Unfortunately we fell short by 20 runs. We know that the Indians have a very good batting line-up. We knew that from the start of the series.

Virat Kohli is the Man of the Series

Irfan Pathan: My performances with the bat helped my confidence. It’s a good feeling. With the windy condition, there is some help for the seamers. I enjoyed the challenge at the start.

Irfan Pathan is the Man of the Match

Well this has been a brilliant start to the season for Dhoni’s men. They started the series with a win but had a minor glitch as they went down with a whimper in the 2nd ODI, owing to a poor batting performance. After that though, India really stepped up their game and looked to be a far better side than Sri Lanka. There were a few upsets in the series, that coming through Sangakkara’s injury and Rohit Sharma’s inability to last longer than a television commercial. Sri Lanka will have to go back to the drawing board from here and will need to erase their flaws. India on the other hand will take this 4-1 series win in their stride and will hope for a better touring season than the previous one.

Interesting stat: Irfan is the first bowler to take a five wicket haul for India in ODIs since Yuvraj Singh did it in the World Cup against Ireland.

India have come out victorious and are now ranked second in the ICC ODI rankings, behind Australia by a margin of 0.02. Sri Lanka got off to a dodgy start as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At one stage the hosts were struggling at 102 for five. Thirimanne and Jeevan Mendis then put on a century stand and threatened to take the game away from India. A mix up in the middle then led to the downfall of Thirimanne and things slowly started drifting back in India’s favour. Mendis though, held his nerve for most parts and seemed to be taking his side through to a win. It was Irfan Pathan who then changed the game as he struck in his last few overs to dismiss Perera, Mendis and Senanayake. Dinda landed the final blow to seal a 4-1 series victory.

Another low full toss on the off stump, Malinga tries to loft it over the boundary at long off but doesn’t quite middle it and Raina runs back to take a good catch from behind his head. India vs Sri Lanka 5th ODI Match Preview

The 5th game of the series is a dead rubber with series already decided in favour of Indian team. But the Srilanka team would still be looking to gain a consolation win under their belt. On the other hand, Indian team would be looking to wrap up the series on a high. However, it is to be watched out what experimentations both the teams would look to be commiting. Indian team would be looking to rest some of their senior players like Zaheer Khan to give a chance to young umesh Yadav to show his skills. Srilankan have not much to experiment with.

Fifth and final one day international of the series between hosts Sri Lanka and India is scheduled to start on Saturday, 4th August 2012 at 14:30 local time | 09:00 GMT | 14:30 IST (India Standard Time)

India

For Indians this match is not much worth of as they have already done the hardwork. But they must not allow Srilankans to lift up because still one-off T20 remains. MS Dhoni and his men have done quite a wonderful job till now but fielding and death bowling still remain the areas of concern. In last ODI due to some stupid batting by Srilankan batsmen Indian death bowling was not exposed but it is one of the areas they would like to fill up in near future especailly with world T20 on the horizon.

Srilanka

For Srilankans, last ODI will only be a way og regaining their ODI. The last ODI is significant in the sense that there is still one-off T20 remaining in this series so they would be requiring to gain a bit of momentum going into that game. For Srilankans, they need to analyse quite seriously on all the departments of the game because they have been quite wounded by the professional Indian team. They have let down whatever chances they have come their way. In particular, the last ODI scenario when they put their guns down against a part-time leg spinner when they were required to launch.
