Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd Test Match Summary Score Card Presentation

Mahela gets the trophy and the entire team join to enjoy a photo-op
Mahela Jayawardene: The mindset was obviously to win the series 2-0. We were in a good position to win, the guys put their hand up and performed well. When we lost the crucial wicket of Chandimal, we decided to shut down the chase. All our youngsters have chipped in right throughout the ODI and Test series. Dilly was unavailable here but he did well with 2 hundreds. Pakistan are an amazing team and deserve better than the No. 5 ranking. We have some real quality in our side, the credit should go to them as well as the support staff. I am pleased to win the series as a captain, it was a real challenge and the guys responded well. As long as we handle ourselves well, captaincy is pretty easy.
Misbah: I am really happy with the way our team cameback after the 1st Test. The youngsters are really playing well. Azhar and Shafiq got runs here, Adnan played really well and Junaid has been a find. It was tough not to have the regular keeper, but that it is the way it goes. The pitch was lively on the 1st two days and it became very flat later on. We have to work hard, we were a bit behind in the 1st Test and that cost us the series.
Sangakkara: I thought it was a fantastic effort from the guys. Paranavitana and Samaraweera batted very well in the 1st innings. Our bowling was very good and Thisara played really well. I thought this wicket suited Pakistan very well and we needed to play at our best. We have had a tough last year and a half, this series win is good for the team. We need to work hard on our basics with our coaches. Test cricket is a great leveller, we have a fine bunch of seniors and young players. Everyone is pulling their weight.
Kumar Sangakkara is the Man of the Series
Shafiq: It was difficult in the first innings. The pitch was challenging, we had lost some early wickets and I needed to play according to the situation. I was nervous when I was nearing 100 in the second knock but all thanks to Adnan Akmal, It was a good test series for us, we have learnt a lot.
Asad Shafiq is the Man of the Match for his knocks of 75 and 100*
One might argue that Sri Lanka adopted an insipid approach while chasing this target. A win in this Test would have ensured that Sri Lanka jump upto fifth place in the Test rankings. After the departure of Chandimal just before the Tea break, they shut shop and played out for a draw. Some might criticize their approach while some might say that Sri Lanka were well within their rights to protect their series lead and see that there are no hiccups in this match.
For Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara was the stand-out. His centuries at Galle and the SSC put the game beyond Pakistan’s reach. Dilshan was also in sparkling form in the first two Tests. The rest of the batting line-up contributed in bits and pieces. Mahela had a poor run in this series and he will be desperate to turn the corner in the coming matches. Rangana Herath and Nuwan Kulasekara were the stars with the ball while Thisara Perera sparkled with his all-round skills in the final Test. Stay tuned for the presentation.
Pakistan will be haunted by the fact that they were bundled out for 100 in the first innings of the Galle Test. They lost momentum and never recovered from that position. Playing on concrete slabs at the SSC and Pallekele did not help their cause and they have lost the series 1-0. Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan were the star batsmen for Pakistan while Junaid Khan was the star bowler for them. Ajmal was not at his destructive best while the other Pakistani bowlers struggled for penetration.
This is the third Test played in Pallekele and all have been drawn. The first Test featured the West Indies and it was washed out. The second Test featured Australia and that too was affected by rain. In the third Test, rain and a flat pitch ensured another tame draw.
For Pakistan, this is their first Test series loss under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq. The last time Pakistan lost a Test series was against England in 2010. That seemed like a different era altogether.
Sri Lanka will be mighty pleased with this effort. This is their first Test series win since 2009. They had defeated New Zealand 2-0. It is even more special for them as they have done it without the services of Muttiah Muralitharan.
