MS Dhoni Batting Highlights

All the Australian players walk up to MS Dhoni to shake his hand. The dressing room is on its feet. Same with the stands. Dhoni owns this day. He came into bat when India had scored some 13-14 runs in one hour and had lost Tendulkar. In he strode purposefully, and began to counterattack. Then he lost Kohli – heir to his captaincy – for a good century, and slowed down to stabilise the innings. Then he saw Jadeja, Ashwin and Harbhajan get out and Australia claw their way back.

After that he just let rip. He did pretty much as he liked. If he wanted a single off the last ball, he took. If he wanted to hit a six, he did. If he wanted to place the ball for a couple, he did. Dhoni has scored 206 of the 319 runs that have come with him at the wicket. Of this ninth-wicket stand worth 109, Bhuvneshwar has scored only 16. Mazher Arshad tells me he is now 28 off the highest score by a wicketkeeepr, the 232 by Andy Flower. We will see tomorrow if that happens, but for the moment he has put India in a position from which it is very difficult to lose. An innings win is a likelier result now than an Indian defeat. We will see you tomorrow with more.
